the second half, and the end
So the second semester of this course, English Composition, is coming to an end, and I’m going to graduate. I’ve written 3 essays in total in this semester. I got to say that these essays are a lot harder than the last, because the standards from the teacher and myself are much higher. I decided that every sources I used in the essays have to be either official statistics or other essays and studies from other scholars. In this way, it should make everything I proposed in my essays feasible and true. However, it also became the most time-consuming part of the entire process. Trying to find the things that I wanted to include in my essay is really difficult. It requires a lot of time and perhaps luck to find them. Because of it and the experience from the last semester, writing the essays itself isn’t that difficult anymore.
The first essay I wrote is about fertility rate in Taiwan. Now that I think of it, it’s actually not that great. The first two arguments are pretty good, but the last one is flawed. It has nothing to support it. The second essay is definitely the best one. Each of my argument has strong statistical numbers to back them up. Also, I’m really satisfied with the ending sentence. I think it is really persuasive and strong in just a short line.
The third essay is still ongoing. What’s special about it is that we have to do survey this time. And I got 84 responses. The first person I give this survey to is my big brother. He gave me many feedbacks. I didn’t change much because it was already release, but he let me revaluate a lot, allowing me to do better it there is a next time. Unfortunately, the writing part isn’t going well. The first half is good, but the second half has big problems. I was unable to find any sources for it and couldn’t think of any new idea for replacement. It’s not going to be as good as the second essay, which is quite a bummer.
Overall, I still learned a lot, even though I made some mistakes that I’m not happy with. If I continued writing after I graduate, I hope that I could do even better.
